Dr. Benedict I. Ugbong

Dr. Benedict I. Ugbong was born on April 25th, 1969. He hails from Bebuabong in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. His educational journey started in 1977 at St. Patrick's Primary School, Obudu, CRS. He completed his primary school education in record time (1982). Thereafter, he gained admission to the prestigious Government Secondary School, Obudu and obtained his Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) in 1988. Dr. Benedict Ugbong applied and gained admission into Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa in 1990 and completed the NCE programme in 1993. He obtained his B.ED in Elementary Education in Second Class Upper Division in 1998 and a Master 's Degree (M.Ed) in Educational Administration and Planning in 2004, all from University of Calabar, Calabar. He obtained the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Educational Administration and Planning in 2012 from Ebonyi State University, Abakiliki, Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

Dr. Benedict is a seasoned administrator and an adequately trained teacher who has taught at all levels of education in Nigeria. He is currently an Associate Professor and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration at University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa, Cross River State - his Alma Mater. He is diligent, committed, honest, dedicated and has a very strong passion for the growth and development of the University, formerly Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa. This has earned him several appointments in the then college and in the university which include: Coordinator, Pre-NCE, Head of Department, Director of Academic Planning - an office he used to sanitize and digitalize results computation and record-keeping. In his five years in office as DAP, he ensured the smooth running of the academic calendar, centralization of final year results and prompt release of graduating students' results. Because of his hard work and diligence as DAP, he was appointed Deputy Provost of the then college, the office he occupied in two consecutive tenures. It is pertinent to state that Dr. Benedict Ugbong acted as Provost when his boss was on leave. Within that short period, he exhibited the qualities of a seasoned administrator and teacher, currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration. Dr. Benedict Ugbong, as a scholar, has more than forty scholarly articles published locally and internationally and many book chapters to his credit. He has attended several conferences and workshops both locally and internationally.

He is a regular panelist in the accreditation of academic programmes in Colleges of Education in Nigeria and participated in the review of the 2020 edition of the NCCE Minimum Standards. He has won several grants from TETfund to carry out Institution Based Research (IBR) and to participate in workshop training on how to write research proposals and funds management at Central State University, Ohio, USA and the United Arab Emirates, Dubai. Dr. Benedict Ugbong is a Christian and is married to Mrs. Eucharia Ugbong. The marriage is blessed with children.
