Prof. Patrick N. Asuquo

Professor Patrick Nyong Asuquo is a distinguished Nigerian academic, researcher, and educational administrator with expertise in Guidance and Counselling. He is an indigene of Akamkpa in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. He holds a B.A. (Ed.) degree from the University of Calabar and a Ph.D. in Guidance and Counselling from the same institution.

Professor Asuquo's distinguished academic career reflects a deep commitment to educational leadership and development in Nigeria. He has served in various academic and administrative capacities in Nigerian higher education institutions, making significant contributions to curriculum development, policy formulation, institutional planning, and academic leadership. With a career spanning over three decades, he has demonstrated exceptional capacity to drive academic excellence and institutional growth.

Over the years, Professor Asuquo has held several administrative, research, and consultancy positions within and outside the university system. These include Examination Officer and Adviser to Sandwich Students, University of Calabar (1995–2002); Sub-Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Calabar (2000–2002); Coordinator, University of Calabar Sandwich Programme (2002–2004); and Head, Department of Educational Administration and Planning (2005).

Between 1996 and 2006, he served as a consultant to several state, national, and international development agencies, including the UNDP, the World Bank, DFID, the Cross River State Post-Primary Schools Management Board, the Oban Hill Project, and the Cross River State Child Rights Committee. He also served as Editor-in-Chief of The Calabar Counsellor, the official publication of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Cross River State Chapter, from 1997 to 2012.

Professor Asuquo is a Fellow of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON). He previously served as Vice President of the Association and as its immediate past National Editor. In addition, he is a certified planner with the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners. He also served as Community Adviser on Education to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) during his sabbatical leave (2005–2007).

From 2008 to 2013, he served as Director of Academic Planning at the University of Calabar. In that capacity, Professor Asuquo played a pivotal role in shaping the University's academic programmes and affiliations, ensuring quality assurance standards, and promoting strategic planning initiatives.

Professor Asuquo is a two-time Provost of the Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa, having served in 1999 and again from 2024 to 2025. He currently serves as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa. As the institution's first Vice-Chancellor, he is providing the visionary leadership required to establish strong academic standards, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and position the University as a leading institution in education and entrepreneurial studies.

His progression from Director of Academic Planning to Provost and now pioneer Vice-Chancellor underscores his wealth of experience and proven leadership in Nigeria's tertiary education sector. His dedication to academic planning, teacher education, and the development of a specialized university focused on education and entrepreneurship has established him as a leading figure in the advancement of higher education in Cross River State and Nigeria.

Professor Asuquo has undertaken extensive research in education, counselling psychology, and related fields. He has published over 95 peer-reviewed articles in local and international journals, authored 10 books, edited 35 scholarly works, and produced more than 15 technical consultancy reports. His research interests include personal development, career development, employability, and retirement studies.

As a respected voice in Nigerian academia, Professor Asuquo continues to inspire through his unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and leadership.

Beyond academia, Professor Asuquo is a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where he serves in the teaching ministry and in the training of church workers. He is happily married to Professor (Mrs.) Anne E. Asuquo, and their union is blessed with three children: Ikomense, Onarense, and Ononse.
