Prof. Susan Etim

Professor Susan Eta Etim, LSM, FPPSN, is a distinguished Professor of Parasitology at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Calabar. She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree from the University of Jos (UNIJOS), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

Following her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), she commenced her professional career at the Epidemiological Unit, Jos, where she rose to the rank of Principal Scientific Officer. She subsequently joined The Polytechnic, Calabar, where she attained the rank of Chief Lecturer before transferring her services to the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), now the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), in 2002.

Throughout her distinguished academic career, Professor Etim has held several strategic leadership positions, including Head of Department, Director of the Centre for Preliminary and General Studies, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Chairman of the Committee of Deans, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) on two separate occasions (2006–2009 and 2014–2017). She also served as the pioneer Editor-in-Chief of the CRUTECH Journal of Science, Engineering and Technology (CRUTECH JOSET) from 2010 to 2014. In addition, she chaired several key committees, including the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee, Central Accreditation Committee, and Council Labour Relations Committee, among others. She has equally served as a member of the Governing Councils of The Polytechnic, Calabar, and CRUTECH.

An accomplished scholar and mentor, Professor Etim has supervised and graduated numerous Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.Sc. students and has served as an External Examiner to several tertiary institutions across Nigeria. With over thirty-five years of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience, she has made significant contributions to the fields of Epidemiology, Public Health, and Parasitology. She has authored more than sixty scholarly publications in reputable local and international journals.

Professor Etim is a Fellow of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (FPPSN), where she has served in various national leadership capacities, including National Treasurer, National Secretary, and National Financial Secretary. She is also the Chairperson of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on the Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in Cross River State.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to academia and humanity, Professor Etim has received numerous honours and awards. She is the traditional title holder of Yanqua Mbonka I of Efut in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State and a Fourth Degree Lady of St. Mulumba (LSM). She has served as President, Vice President, and Secretary of the LSM Sancta Maria Sub-Council, Calabar, and is a Patron of several church-based and community-based organizations.

Professor Susan Eta Etim is a devoted mother and grandmother. She was married to the late (Ndabu) Dr. Ernest Okokon Etim, KSM, KSS.

She currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Education and Entrepreneurship (UEE), Akamkpa, Cross River State, where she provides strategic leadership, promotes sound institutional governance, and advances the University's vision of academic excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
