UEE Registrar Cracks Down on Staff Absenteeism, Orders Salary Deductions for Defaulting Staff

UEE Media Team| 15th January, 2026 | Akamkpa, Cross River State.

The Registrar of the University of Education and Entrepreneurship (UEE), Akamkpa, Dr. Gabriel O. Egbe, has taken a firm stand against absenteeism and disregard for institutional directives, ordering strict sanctions against staff who failed to resume duty in line with the University’s circular on the commencement of academic activities.
The decisive action followed unscheduled inspection visits by the Registrar to various Faculties, Departments, and Units of the University, during which several offices were found unattended during official working hours.
Disturbed by the development, Dr. Egbe directed the Head of Human Resources to immediately compile the names of all staff absent from their duty posts for the period under review and forward same to the Bursar for the immediate deduction of salaries corresponding to the days of absence.
According to the Registrar, the University administration will no longer tolerate a situation where staff draw salaries for work not done. He emphasized that accountability, discipline, and commitment to duty are non-negotiable pillars of the current administration.
“This administration cannot continue to watch staff earn salaries without rendering corresponding services. Every staff member must take responsibility for their duties and comply strictly with institutional regulations,” Dr. Egbe stated.
In a further directive, the Registrar instructed all staff members to check his office to obtain copies of the University’s Conditions of Service and study them carefully. He warned that any further violation of University policies and regulations will attract stiffer sanctions, in line with established rules and public service guidelines.
Dr. Egbe also issued a strong warning against the use of offices as market outlets or for personal commercial activities, noting that such practices are inconsistent with the University’s Conditions of Service and the Public Service Rules. He stressed that offices are strictly meant for official duties and must be treated with the professionalism befitting a citadel of learning.
The Registrar reaffirmed the commitment of the University Management to entrench a culture of discipline, productivity, and institutional integrity, calling on all staff to key into the vision of the University by demonstrating punctuality, dedication, and respect for constituted authority.

The development has been widely welcomed as a bold step towards repositioning the University for greater efficiency, credibility, and academic excellence.
